What is a seed phrase

The seed phrase is 12 or 24 words in a fixed order. Anyone with those words can restore the wallet. Terius never stores the phrase.

Keep it offline

  1. Password

    On this device

Opens the encrypted file. It is not the seed phrase.

  2. Seed phrase

    On paper

12 or 24 words. Restores the wallet anywhere.

  3. Passphrase

    Only in your head

Optional. The same phrase plus another word is another wallet.

Write it on paper. Do not put it in a photo, a cloud note, or a chat. Do not type it into a website.

The password on the wallet file is separate. The password opens the file on this device. The phrase restores the wallet when the file or the password is gone.

Order matters

The words only work in the order you wrote them. A swapped pair is a different wallet.

It is not the password

The password opens the file on this device. The seed phrase restores the wallet when the file is gone.

Shown once, then hidden

On creation the words can be shown or hidden, and copied. After that screen, Terius does not show them again. The paper copy is the backup.
